Assistant for Knowledge Transfer specialising in applied research in the field of furniture

The Department of Furniture and Design at the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology of Mendel University in Brno is one of the leading workplaces in the fields of research, development and innovation in furniture manufacturing, interior design and wood processing. It has long combined academic research with industrial practice and cooperates with Czech and international partners on the development of new materials, structural solutions and modern production technologies. An important part of its activities is also applied research in the field of furniture construction, wood-based materials and laminated wood composites, with a focus on 3D forming, optimisation of technological parameters, material efficiency and the transfer of research results into industrial practice.

In cooperation with FORM, spol. s r. o., we are looking for an Assistant for Knowledge Transfer specialising in applied research in the field of furniture for a non-academic position. The position is being created as part of the OP TAK – Knowledge Transfer Partnership project, whose aim is to introduce the technology of 3D forming of laminated wood composites into production practice. It offers a unique opportunity to participate in the transfer of academic know-how into a corporate environment, cooperate with an industrial partner and gain experience at the intersection of research, innovation and real-world production.

What will your responsibilities be?

• coordinating the transfer of knowledge between the Institute of Design and Furniture at MENDELU and FORM, spol. s r.o.
• cooperating in the verification and implementation of the technology of 3D forming of laminated wood composites in production practice
• preparing materials for experimental activities, documenting the testing process and carrying out basic evaluation of the results
• working with professional information, technical documentation and methodological materials
• communicating with members of the project team, participating in work meetings and preparing interim project outputs
• supporting the preparation of professional texts, presentations and materials for project reports
  

What do we expect from you?

• completed master’s degree or ongoing doctoral studies in a field focused on forestry and wood technology, furniture manufacturing, materials engineering, design, materials processing technology or a related technical field
• very good knowledge of Czech
• interest in applied research, innovation and the transfer of knowledge into industrial practice
• ability to work with professional information and technical documentation
• knowledge of eco-design, the circular economy, production digitalisation or technical production preparation (TPV) in the furniture or related industry
• ability to work independently in a professional capacity, with an analytical and systematic approach to solving technical and process-related tasks
• communication and organisational skills for cooperation between academic and corporate environments, with the ability to conduct training and present results
• excellent knowledge of English
• computer literacy (at least MS Office)
• proactive and responsible approach to work/engagement
• creative and innovative approach to finding solutions
• ability to work independently and as part of a team/independence in solving tasks and the ability to take responsibility for assigned areas
• attention to detail and reliability
• good organisational skills
  

What would be an advantage?

• knowledge of furniture construction, wood-based materials, composites or production technologies
• basic knowledge of CAD/3D modelling tools or a willingness to develop further in this area
• experience with a student, research or application project, experimental work or data evaluation
• knowledge of English for working with professional texts and user-level knowledge of MS Office
• proactive approach, reliability, creative thinking and a willingness to learn new things
• experience in furniture manufacturing, furniture construction, wood processing or technical production preparation
• driving licence, category B
